Six Lindsay System chanters in A — we're rolling!
More room for music, six chanters looking for homes, and a ten-year milestone.

Hello,
I have exactly six Lindsay System chanters in A here without a home to go to. Once the last of my back orders are set up and sent, these six can be ready to send after the weekend, without waiting for a new instrument to be made.
I developed the Lindsay System because I wanted more room for music in Scottish smallpipes, while keeping their character and the feel of piping. It retains the familiar Scottish fingering from low G to high A, with lower notes, an upper register and semitones beyond it, without keys. There is familiar ground to begin with, and more to explore as playing develops.
The Burn o Cairnie — a short workshop performance.
If that brings a piping friend to mind, please send this their way. If it sounds like you, I'd love to hear from you.

These six have rich-brown mounts and are £585 each, including the reed and chanter-side split-stock cap. I individually set up, tune and playtest each one, and record a video introduction with that very chanter before it goes out. An owner's guide is included, along with access to the Learning App when I've completed it, currently anticipated for early 2027.
Shipping and any destination import charges are additional. A receiving stock to tie into the bag, if needed, is £50 extra. Just reply to enquire: we can discuss fitting, the total cost and dispatch together. Details of the intended pipe set and destination would help, if you have them. Questions are welcome, and I'm always interested to hear how players get on.
For more than a month, I've spent every spare moment, in amongst Dreaming Pipes and everything else, finishing, reeding, tuning and playtesting chanters — then deciding I'd like to try another reed, playing them again, and having difficulty putting them down because they are lovely. A new box of reeds arrived, and round the whole process I went again!
This summer I've made a third of all the chanters and pipes I've ever made. It's been a revelatory year, and Lindstruments may be on the cusp of becoming a full-time, or close-to-full-time, enterprise. Moving on from a cottage, one-at-a-time evening business, I'm beginning to build stock of finished instruments. These six are the first. We're rolling!
And this weekend marks exactly ten years to the day since I first completed the Rainbow Set of Pollok and wrote Chanter 2. The tune grew from the phrases I was using to develop the extended range: the instrument and its music coming into being together. The Rainbow Set is now in the Museum of Piping's permanent collection, while the Lindsay System continues in the hands of players and makers.
It feels quite a moment to take this next step. Whether you're a player, listener or friend of Lindstruments, helping these six find their players would mean a great deal. I'd love you to be part of it.
All the best,
Donald

P.S. Behind them in the photograph are five further A chanters, two C chanters and a D chanter in preparation, all Lindsay System instruments with the extended range. For C or D, let me know and I can advise about waiting time. I find these trickier to reed, so I'd like to allow a month or so to get them ready.
